All ITB Lecturer Must be educated S3

Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) requires education S-3 for the entire teaching staff. In the next three years is expected to lecturers who have not earned a doctorate could soon finish it. Looking ahead, ITB will only receive education lecturers with S-3. This was conveyed by ITB rector Djoko Santoso after the occasion with the entire faculty and staff in the West Hall ITB, Jln. Ganeca Bandung, some time ago. ITB lecturers of over 1,000, about 700 of whom hold a doctorate. The rest, about 30%, still educated S-2. However, they will get help from ITB in the form of education vouchers for my doctorate. These vouchers worth S-3 school fees.

According to Djoko, the vouchers can be used at the ITB or in other universities in Indonesia. “Lecturers should be S-3 because they were already independent. It is also more tested expertise for his doctorate at him more philosophical,” said Djoko explained.

Djoko is not worried about the education required S-3 makes ITB lecturers who teach are not productive. Therefore, most S-3 education just finished when a person reaches the age of four heads. “In fact, now many young people who already hold a doctorate. The average age under 40 years,” he said.

Minimal S-2

Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Islamic University of Bandung (Unisba) Edi Setiadi, Friday (10/10), said the new academic year 2009, the entire faculty member teaching education must qualify at least S-2. This is to support the Government Regulation (PP) No. 19 Year 2005 regarding minimum standards of teacher education colleges already carried out in late 2009.

To that end, Edi said that currently the majority of lecturers Unisba acceleration is pursuing a degree, continuing education at the level of the S-2 and S-3. However, he did not dodge if there are still some Unisba lecturer who holds S-1. ‘The amount is small, less than 10%. They are senior faculty who will soon retire. They may not be given a scholarship for teaching future they will be finished in one or two years, “said Edi.

For lecturers S-1, will be the reduction of teaching hours gradually. In fact, there are some people who will be transferred to the administrative section.

Unisba about scholarships for education lecturer, Edi said, every year Unisba adopts a sequence. Lecturers who received scholarships Unisba as many as 20 people, while the rest may seek scholarships from other institutions. This year, there are 5 people who went on to study a master’s lecturers and 20 lecturers who went on S-3. Number of lecturers Unisba 320 people.

According to Edi, improving the quality of the lecturer is also expected to offset the growth in the number of students Unisba. This year, Unisba receive 1,500 new students. While last year only 1,400 new students.

In addition, the new academic year 2009, Unisba also targets the establishment of two new programs, namely D-3 and S-1 Pharmaceutical Early Childhood Education (ECD).

“With these targets, we will strive to keep the quality of lecturers also increased. Improving the quality of the faculty is a prerequisite akselersi improving the quality of the university,” he said.
