Bandung Basin Research Group (KRCB)

Demi Bandung Geology

CUP of tea, piece of cake Eid small, round table in a circle, and warm conversation about the earthquake PANGALENGAN. Such was the atmosphere of friendship Bandung Basin Research Group members (KRCB) post-Eid. They are nine of the eleven core members KRCB discussing issues of geology Bandung.

“This is actually the residence Mr. Miko (Sujatmiko, secretary KRCB, ed.), But it is here that our secretariat,” said Chairman KRCB Budi Brahmantyo, when “PR” come to the secretariat KRCB, Jln. 128 Padjadjaran Bandung, Friday (25/9).

KRCB was first established December 12, 2000. The goal is to provide “something” which means to Bandung, a city well-loved residents. “Because we are mostly members of geologists, then contribute ideas about geology also we want to give to Bandung,” said Budi.

The group walks

Initially, said Budi, in 1999 some faculty and alumni of the Department of Geological Engineering ITB feel that it lacks the knowledge of Geology of Bandung. Knowledge of Geology of Bandung, especially among the students, as if to stop the van Bemmelen (1949).

Although many studies and publications that came out at the time, but the publication of van Bemmelen 1949 is still reliable. Even students who have been through college Geology for 4-5 years, when asked about terrestrial in Bandung, unable to answer aloud: how real maps and terrestrial conditions Bandung.
Departing from the requirement that some lecturers and researchers Puslitbang ITB Geology, Geotechnology LIPI invited as well as students to simply refresh Bandung Geology through the streets, forming groups of streets named Research Group.

The idea of these roads, according to Budi, triggered also by the experience of some lecturers and researchers who had studied in Japan. There are a group of people consisting of professors, researchers, students, secondary school teachers, and even the private sector and the people who have always held a sightseeing agenda.

Interestingly, said Budi, every member of this group has always positioned himself as “I do not know and want to know”. The principle is then developed Budi on KRCB. “Hence, in KRCB was no upload-ungguh. Everything runs based on science and experience of each. Not a few professors who still respect and appreciate the young members though,” said Budi.
It seemed when KRCB held a symposium or workshop. A professor will keep nodding assent to the view presented by the speaker. In fact, the speaker could have been a very young age.

“In KRCB precisely stiffness or anything rigid as it should be abandoned. While discussing KRCB, the position is the same even though there may be only those who are already occupying a particular position. Instead we do not want in KRCB it appears someone who felt more or less. But all the same, egalitarian in the mix without compromising respect each other, “said Budi.

Trials

The idea streets Research Group has been started since 1999. At that time, said Budi, their concentration on the Bandung Basin and lasted until 2004. The Bandung Basin covers Citatah Karst region, Saguling, Meta and Ci Ci Flow Taruna, Lembang Fault, and Mt. Tangkubanparahu.
As for the southern region, basin Cicalengka and Nagreg into two locations KRCB surveillance and research. Homage was incredible, exploration results Bandung Basin is the discovery of prehistoric artifacts in Guwa Pawon.

This spectacular discovery is a successful application of the concept of geological and geophysical methods use. According to Budi, the study also uses geomagnetic (earth magnets) to read all the content in the bowels of the earth.
With these findings, the group eventually established the streets of Bandung Basin Research Group (KRCB) or Bandung Basin Research Group (BBRG). The funds used were obtained from the pocket of each member are often “on / off” presence. Nevertheless, there are eleven pioneer who until now continues to “on” moving KRCB.

Eleven people that is now moving KRCB. Not only running wheel activity, but also in synergy with various containers also the concept to the problems of Earth and environmental Bandung. As Mahanagari Group, Group LPPM ITB, BPLHDs, Kopassus, Sribaduga Museum, Disbudpar West Java, geographers Association, the Association of Geologists, until Air Photography.

The more cooperation with various parties, said Budi, the more people know about terrestrial and Bandung real environment. “With Air Photography for example, we intentionally work together held a photography competition about the rescue Karst Citatah. Animonya good at all and the results that people can know the environmental damage will adversely affect the real human origins,” said Budi.

personal pocket
The reason KRCB formed among others to develop aspects of earth science and its application in the area of Bandung basin and surrounding areas through research. Disseminate the results of the research findings and scientific among earth science and to the related government and the general public are expected to provide contributions to the empowerment of communities through the utilization of research results.

An example for this, Budi said, very few local authorities are aware of the potential and the dangers inherent in the earth. If research continues to be done and the results are given to the government, the government is expected to care about the condition of Earth and its environment. “Examples of limestone Citatah region, Padalarang. As a result of illegal dredging occurs continuously, sites that exist in the region is threatened even been broken,” he said.

Although not easy to give an understanding of the terrestrial and the environment as it was to the government or the local community, KRCB still go on. In fact, all activities are solely funded from members’ personal allowance. Even if there should be the use of heavy equipment, usually get help from the institutions concerned. “But for all the research costs, ranging from data collection in the field until the results of the research were presented to the public, all of our personal pocket money,” said Budi.
Fundraising not be the main goal. KRCB also wanted to maintain independence as a professional organization that is open. Although there are times when help finally arrived, especially for book publishing research results and research KRCB.

The books were distributed to various agencies. Including already become a new reference source about terrestrial and Bandung environment in schools and colleges. Not surprisingly, when the existence KRCB has now become an institution that accounted for at the level of earth and environment in Bandung and nationally.
“That’s our hope, love the environment because they know and understand what is contained in it. It’s for Bandung past, present, and future,” said Budi. One more form of affection of the people of Bandung’s beloved city! (Eriyanti / “PR”) ***

Cassava leaf sprig philosophy

krcbCassava leaf sprig is a symbol of belonging to Bandung Basin Research Group (KRCB). Each strand arm leaf is a symbol of Mount Tangkubanparahu form. The form of a capsized boat handover rotates clockwise into the boat in a normal position.
Petiole is a symbol Ci Tarum, the river that the artery of the Bandung Basin. That means, KRCB want to know the earth Bandung with reversing cover (tangkuban) boat-shaped order to understand what’s behind the lack of coverage.

The philosophy of this cassava leaf sprig can we meet in the book Cave Pawon Commission published KRCB in 2004 after the spectacular success of finding human sites Pawon Cave.
There are many stories and traditions (customs) KRCB members in practicing this philosophy cassava leaf sprig. Not only in Bandung reveals his intention to reverse the boat upside down (nangkub) be a regular boat (normal), but also the real implementation on the ground.

Tradition usual KRCB members are botram. Enjoy a meal of side dishes in the wild open. Imagine, KRCB members most of whom were aged over 40 years should willingly and out of the cave Pawon, for example in order to find the answer to the mystery of Bandung Basin.

As a result, they should always bring lunch to eat and drink from home. However, just a short break with botram (meal together in the open air) is, members KRCB each other so familiar, so close. There is no bulkhead between one and another.

In fact, if you look at the profession outside KRCB, all have positions or positions in the field are still one. However, at the time they joined KRCB and do for KRCB – which means also act to Bandung and this nation – all title and positions it precisely uninstalled.

They are not only compact in discussions, workshops, or seminars, but also when in the field. This behavior, according to Chief KRCB Budi Brahmantyo, became amplifier membership ties to one another. This is important, because the nature of researching according to Budi is consistent. “Consistency is what we need when we unlock the mystery strand by strand philosophy cassava leaf sprig of this. What’s going on in it,” he said.

Now, KRCB already nine years old, it’s not easy for KRCB to be consistent through all its promises with love for Bandung. However, Budi and KRCB members still feel pessimistic considering many to areas that are not “ngeh” with the potential of the earth and the environment.
“If mismanaged, can be destroyed. Likewise, if left unchecked, there is no mystery to be revealed knowledge of the mystery of Bandung Basin,” said Miko. (Eriyanti / “PR”) ***
