Experts Discuss Disaster Mitigation and Recovery in Hydrometeorological Hazards and Coastal Hazards
Bandung on Monday (17/7/2023), the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Technology (FEST) hosted the 4th day of Capacity Building Training On Disaster Risk Reduction And Climate Change Mitigation And Adaptation Workshop at the Auditorium CC Timur Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Still in the scoop of geohazard and mitigation, today’s speaker were Dr. Agie Wandala Putra from (BMKG) and Dr. Eng. Hamzah Latief (ITB).
In “Disaster mitigation and recovery post disaster related to Hydrometeorological hazard” presentation, Dr. Agie Wandala Putra covered a wide range of topics including flood, one of the most often hydrometeorological hazard occurred in Indonesia. Hydrometeorological hazards are caused by extreme meteorological and climate events, such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, tornadoes, landslides, or mudslides.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Eng. Hamzah Latief, who was an expert of marine spatial planning from Oceanography program in FEST ITB. His presentation, “In Class Training on Coastal Hazard,” convey that coastal inundation events are an increasing threat to the lives and livelihoods of people living in low-lying, populated coastal areas.
Following the discussions, FEST also provided a special event for SICA CARICOM delegations. FEST provided an excursion to Tangkuban Perahu mount as the final activity on the 4th day of the workshop. This excursion
provided an opportunity for hands-on learning and observing volcanic activity trace.
