As the best educational institution, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) continues to innovate and conduct research in various scientific fields. Form Guru Besar (FGB) of ITB held a Scientific Oration on Saturday (17/6/2023) in the Aula Barat of ITB as a milestone of science and technology development.
The event began at 08.00 WIB with the leader of FGB ITB, Prof. Edy Tri Baskoro, M.Sc. Ph.D. followed by the scientific oration by Prof. Iwan Iranwan Wiratmadja, D.E.A.
On the second occasion, Prof. Yan Rizal R. Dipl. Geol. delivered his scientific oration from the podium. The professor’s scientific oration in the field of Paleontology Vertebrata was entitled “Fossils as the Beginning of Earth History”. In his oration, he explained that the universe was made from a collection of hardened mist and that life was created from water. He also showed his findings of tsunami deposit outcrops in Lombok, mammoth ivory in Majalengka, and a 2.3 million-year-old area in Ujung Jaya. When exploring the area, Prof. Yan discovered some rocks that used to be utensils for humans. This discovery could renew the Out of African Theory, which is a famous hypothesis that explained the flow of homo sapiens’ first development in Africa and their spread around the world between 100 and 200,000 years ago. Their migration superseded all other hominid species.
After the delivery of the scientific oration from Prof. Ignatius Pulung Prasetio, MSME., the trial ended at 12.00 WIB. The closing of the Scientific Oration was accompanied by thunderous applause from the audience. Next, the three professors, accompanied by their family members received a handshake of congratulations from all the guests.
